SAXOPHONE ACADEMY AUSTIN PRESENTS

2017-2018 UT-AUSTIN ALL STATE                        SAXOPHONE COMPETITION AND MASTERCLASS

Saxophone Academy Austin in collaboration with UT-Austin Saxophone Professor Dr. Stephen Page presents the second annual All-State Saxophone Competition and Masterclass.

With $1000 of prizes up for grabs, this event offers Texas saxophonists the opportunity to compete with their all-state etudes before the TMEA auditions in December, for a range of cash and prizes!

This full-day event at the University of Texas at Austin's Butler School of Music is open to ALL high school saxophonists in Texas, and combines a morning competition with masterclasses for each of the etudes in the TMEA All-State competition.

THE COMPETITION

Judged by Dr. Stephen Page, Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Austin, the competition will take place on the morning of November 13, 2016. Limited spaces are available for this competition, and all registered students will have the opportunity to compete for three major prizes.

Students competing will also be able to attend the afternoon masterclasses for free.

Registration for the competition is $40 and applications must be submitted by November 1, 2017 (unless all places fill before this time).

Competitors will be notified of their designated performance times one week before the competition via email, but must be available to perform as early as 8:00am or as late as 11:50am.

In 2017, we will have TWO DIVISIONS:

Junior High (Freshmen and Sophomores)

Senior High (Juniors and Seniors)

For each Division:

1st Prize - $350

2nd Prize - $100 and Sponsor Prize Pack

3rd Prize - $50 and Sponsor Prize Pack

THE MASTERCLASSES

As in previous years, Saxophone Academy Austin presents an afternoon of masterclasses for all High School saxophonists in Texas.  Featuring three of Austin's leading saxophone educators, the All-State Masterclass allows registered students to perform for, and receive valuable feedback from faculty who have experiences teaching and judging the TMEA competition.

This year's faculty includes:

Dr. Stephen Page - Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Austin

Jessica Voigt-Page - Adjunct Instructor at Baylor University,  Faculty at Saxophone Academy Austin

Elizabeth Rosinbum - D'Addario Reserve Method Clinician and Artist, Faculty at Saxophone Academy Austin

Students are not required to perform in masterclasses, however we encourage all students to perform to maximize their experience. If students do not wish to perform, we recommend bringing a notepad to write down useful tips and information received from auditing. Its possible to learn as much from listening to others as it is to perform.

Registration fee for masterclass only (without competition) is $30

Draft Schedule:

8:00 - REGISTRATION

9:00am - 12:00 noon - COMPETITION

1:00 - 4:00 - MASTERCLASSES

4:05 - 4:15 - UT SAXOPHONE STUDIO ENSEMBLE PERFORMANCE (all are welcome)

4:15 - 4:30 - Prize ceremony

Rotating in three groups, students receive feedback on all three TMEA etudes from each of the faculty.
